Why I started Math4TH

In 1992 my dad started an educational software company, AEMS, Inc., which was an IBM business partner. His goal was to develop educational software which would be used in high schools and colleges to help students reinforce their learning when their traditional textbooks became difficult for them to understand. My dad created what he called ‘an electronic textbook’, which had videos mixed with course material and quizzes; and he was working with teachers to produce material for various courses. My dad was injured and never got to see his vision come to fruition. I heard his stories about his software since I can remember and began the process of incorporating his vision with mine.

Since I started Uncle Sonny's, I have been brainstorming trying to figure out what would be a good way for me to earn money for the homeless. About two years ago I decided I was going to start creating math videos, as I truly love math. I thought that if I hosted a YouTube channel "Math4TH" and upload as many math videos as I could, I could then donate any money earned to Uncle Sonny's. Tonight I am excited to announce that I just went live with the second phase of Uncle Sonny's. It has taken me awhile to get here as I had to overcome a few obstacles. In order to give Math4TH a professional look and also Uncle Sonny's it took me some time to figure out many of the things necessary to create professional videos. First I needed to get the lighting correct, not too bright and not too dark and especially no shadows! Second, I had to manage the camera and microphone settings. Lastly, I had to further my knowledge with Adobe Premiere Pro in order to edit all the videos. This was a much more time consuming process then I ever expected! I learned so much and had fun while doing so!

During this process, I experienced a horrific setback, my hard drive crashed and I lost many of the videos I had made over the last two years. My plan was to have a large volume of videos when I originally announced my channel, but with the heartbreak of losing my work, it wasn’t possible; I had to forge ahead. With that being said, luckily I have written documentation of all of the problems. My new plan of action will be to create some videos every week, edit and upload them to the Math4TH YouTube Channel.

I hope everyone enjoys my math videos! I hope my vision of educating the world while helping the homeless will be a great success!
